Like everyone, I am trying to maintain a budget. Gone are the days when I could blow an entire paycheck (or allowance) on shoes, clothes, and make-up. Sigh. As I have learned, some things are worth spending more money on (note: hair), but you can get away with spending less on make-up and get the same results as you would if you bought more expensive brands. That being said, let me introduce you to e.l.f. (eyes lips face).
I can’t use eyeliner pencils. I can’t do it. I have tried countless times and am still unable to use one, so God love those of you that can. Because of my eyeliner pencil ineptitude, I have to use liquid or gel liner. In my younger days I would use Chanel Automatic Liquid Liner (Ecriture de Chanel). It just sounds expensive, doesn’t it? It was wonderful. It had a felt-tip point and was so precise. But, it was also $34.00, and it only lasted a couple of months. When I started paying rent, student loans, a car payment, etc., I knew I needed to stop spending so much money on products. Various magazines were singing the praises of e.l.f. and how inexpensive their products were, so I decided to check it out. At the time, e.l.f. products were only sold online at http://www.eyeslipsface.com/.
I couldn’t believe how many products they offered! The first thing I decided to try was eyeliner. They offer the usual eyeliner pencil, along with eyeliner pens, liquid eyeliner, and gel (cream) eyeliner (yes, they’re all different). The great thing about all of these liners? They’re all priced at $3 or less! I purchased the Studio Cream Eyeliner in Midnight. It comes in a little pot and is applied with an eyeliner brush. The price is $3 and a brush is included. I have had the same pot for about two years and I wear it every single day… I can’t believe how long it’s lasted! Three bucks for two years worth of eyeliner? Who can’t get on board with that?! According to the website, the Studio Cream Liner “creates smooth lines that are defined and precise. Smudge-proof, budge-proof, and water-resistant coverage for all day wear to combat against sweat, tears, and rain.” Believe me, that’s a 100% accurate description. I use baby oil to remove my eye make-up and the liner comes off very easily. I don’t miss my Chanel eyeliner at all.
e.l.f. has hundreds of products. Their website offers any kind of make-up you can imagine and they recently began selling mineral make-up (very similar to Bare Minerals at a fraction of the price). I have tried several of the products and have given the e.l.f. products as gifts as well. Target now sells some of the e.l.f. products in their stores… around Christmas they sold wonderful gift sets for $5 that included eye shadow, liner, mascara, an application brush, and an eyelash curler. It was a perfect gift!
Because you can’t find everything e.l.f. has to offer in Target, their website is worth checking out. I signed up for their email list and have received several great deals: free shipping, 50% off my purchase, and even a free mini-kit with several eyeshadows, lipsticks, a mascara, and eyeliner. They offer deals weekly. I never spend more than $20 when I order from them and I get tons of stuff. I highly recommend checking out e.l.f. for eyliner, shadow, mascara, mineral foundation, and blush. Whether you buy it at Target or online, your wallet will thank you!
