I read a story last night about a man from Fargo who was arrested for using a flamethrower to clear snow. He told police he no longer had the willpower to deal with “four billion tons of white bullshit.” I apologize for the language, but, I GET him. I’ve felt like taking a flamethrower to our entire street every morning this week. The doors on my Jeep were frozen shut yesterday and I had to crawl through the back. In a dress. And heels. It was not pretty.
Since we’re on the verge of another winter storm and polar vortex (OMG), thought I’d share some winter skin tips and some of my favorite cold weather essentials:
It’s important to stay hydrated this time of year- make sure you drink lots of water. I’d rather drink coffee and a hot toddy, but water will refresh your skin. Try warm water with lemon throughout the day if you need to mix it up.
Don’t over-exfoliate. I struggle with this one. While it’s important to exfoliate, doing it too often will strip your skin of the “good” oils. I’m no skincare expert, but a dry face is quicker to show age.
Moisturize. This is a crucial step. Going from wind chills of -10 outside to the 7thl layer of hell in the office kills your skin. I currently use First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream (http://m.sephora.com/ultra-repair-cream-P248407?skuId=1217744) and it helped tremendously during the cold snap. I also suggest Korres Wild Rose 24-Hour Moisturizing & Brightening Cream (http://m.sephora.com/wild-rose-24-hour-moisturizing-brightening-cream-P61805?skuId=750992), and, if your skin is super parched, splurge on the Sephora Favorites Beauty Oil Essentials (http://m.sephora.com/beauty-oil-essentials-P384835?skuId=1561133). blogger will not allow me to properly add links today!
Don’t forget your eyes! I’m a huge fan of First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Eye Cream (http://m.sephora.com/5-in-1-eye-cream-P288522?skuId=1343391); however, it smells like sour milk. Can eye cream go bad? It really softens the skin around my eyes but I gag when I apply it… The price of beauty? Another favorite is Philosophy Eye Hope Multitasking Eye Cream for Dark Circles, Puffiness, and Lines (http://m.sephora.com/eye-hope-multitasking-eye-cream-for-dark-circles-puffiness-lines-P233901?skuId=1174150).
Kissable lips. I received ChapStick Hydration Lock in my Birchbox a few months ago and use it every day. It’s inexpensive and can be bought anywhere. I’m salivating over the Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm (http://m.sephora.com/creme-de-rose-smoothing-plumping-lip-balm-P254222?skuId=1223338). I think I’m going to sell my shoes so I can justify the cost, but it will make an appearance in my makeup bag soon.
Accessorize. As Clairee stated in Steel Magnolias, “The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.” It’s not too late to buy scarves, hats, and gloves. In fact, Target’s winter accessories are now on clearance (http://m.target.com/c/hats-scarves-gloves-women-s-accessories/-/N-5xtbn?type=products) and JCrew (https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/accessories.jsp) is offering an extra 40% off sale items. Great time to stock up!
Stay warm, drink some hot chocolate, and binge-watch Netflix as we hunker down for another cold week.
