In an effort to combat the never-ending winter blues, I decided to try a couple new products. There’s something about fresh makeup that gives me a boost. Truthfully, a lot of products I purchase are impulse buys: I go to the store for toilet paper, and, an hour later, I leave with $50.00 worth of makeup and skincare items. I know I waste a lot of money this way- honestly, I don’t love everything I buy. Occasionally I’ll research products I’m interested in purchasing… it helps me feel like I’m making an informed decision. If a product receives multiple rave reviews from magazine editors and customers I’m more inclined to spend my money.
Blemishes and ongoing sinus/allergy issues forced me to up my makeup game a bit. BB Cream and under-eye concealer are now part of my every day beauty routine. There are hundreds of choices for both products- where to start? I read numerous reviews before settling on a brand and chose two products that were praised in multiple must-have lists: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer and Garnier BB Cream Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector.
I mentioned the Maybelline concealer before, but it is fantastic. According to Good Housekeeping, Maybelline’s under-eye concealer performed better than all other under-eye concealers on the market (even ones that cost much more). I’m not a product-snob: if I find a good, inexpensive product at a drugstore, I have no issue buying it instead of a “fancier” or expensive alternative. That being said, I also don’t have an issue spending more for better quality. The concealer does it all: erases appearance of dark circles, fine lines, and puffiness and still manages to moisturize the sensitive under-eye area (plus it’s super easy to apply). The first time I wore it my boyfriend asked what I’d done differently because my face was “bright.” It gives the appearance of a good night’s sleep for only $9.00!
My other recent buy is Garnier BB Cream Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector. Like Maybelline, this product made it onto almost every must-have list. If you’re not familiar with BB cream (blemish balm, beauty balm, etc.), it’s marketed as a primer, sunscreen, concealer, moisturizer, skin treatment, and foundation all-in-one. BB creams can be used to streamline your morning routine. I use it as a primer- it covers blemishes, brightens skin, and helps my makeup stay on longer. You can wear it alone or with your normal foundation, which is what I choose to do. Garnier’s BB Cream contains sunscreen, Vitamin C for brightening, and moisturizer. It’s perfect for this time of year and only costs around $12.00.
With a little exploration, you can easily find products that will work for you, your routine, and your budget.
