I had an entirely different post in mind, but then I remembered the date.
September is a happy time for me- Cool nights, football, and pumpkins. It’s easy to forget that for some, September brings a terrible anniversary. September represents a time of unimaginable grief.
I don’t know what to say about this day. Nothing ever seems enough. I was 16 on September 11th, 2001, but, like everyone else, it seems like yesterday. My parents pulled all 4 of us out of school that afternoon. There was much confusion. If the world was collapsing around us, we should at least be together, right?
I’ve always loved the Robert Frost quote, “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” For those in the throes of grief, that can be difficult to believe. But here we are, 13 years later.
Today is a day of remembrance. Please say a prayer for those who lost loved ones (and continue to lose loved ones) due to the events of that day. We all face grief at certain points, but most of us don’t have to relive the worst day of our lives in such dramatic fashion. Pray for our servicemen and women as they continue to fight what seems like a never-ending war. And pray for their families as they too sacrifice more than what I can possibly comprehend.
Today, I will try to remember that we’re all in this crazy life together, and thank God for the blessings he has bestowed upon our nation.
