Merry Christmas Eve Eve! Today I’m sharing quick and simple highlighter tricks so you can look even more beautiful in all of your holiday photos!
As I wrote in my Five Favorite Beauty Lessons of 2014 post, I am obsessed with highlighting. I have yet to really conquer contouring, but I’m beginning to master a great highlighting technique. It may seem daunting and expensive, but it’s neither! Promise!

Above are examples of some of my favorite highlighting products- you just need one, but who doesn’t like choices?
Some things to keep in mind:
You do not have to use a brush- depending on the type of product, I’ll simply use my finger to apply. That’s free.
Otherwise, I use a concealer brush. It’s unnecessary to spend a small fortune on brushes; I happen to think Sonia Kashuk brushes (found at Target) work perfectly.
My go-to for highlighter is shimmery pinks and champagnes, but, as you get older, you want to avoid shimmery products, especially around areas you tend to wrinkle (such as crow’s feet). Unfortunately glitter can settle in fine lines making them more pronounced. Bummer. But, you can find a nice, nude matte highlighter: my favorite is NYX Cosmetics Wonder Pencil.
Have white eyeliner collecting dust in your makeup bag? You can use that as a highlighter, too! It provides a great brow lift!
Below is a picture of me WITHOUT hightlighter, but, it was the easiest to edit. 🙂 I always highlight my brow bone and the corners of my eyes. When I have more time, I’ll highlight the other areas.
