You do what you say you’re going to do. I sponsor some blogs that make no promises: I live on their sidebar for a month and get hits… there’s no further promotion and that’s my understanding going into the contract. But if you make big promises, I expect you to keep them- if you say you’re going to promote me on various social media platforms, I expect you to do just that.
You communicate your expectations. If a guest post or questionnaire comes with the sponsorship, give me sufficient time to respond. And please communicate the live dates of said posts; I can’t prepare if I don’t know.
You’re creative. Readers are inundated with blogs and it takes something special to stand out. I am thrilled when bloggers go the extra mile to promote me, whether it’s with a catchy Tweet (Cassie from Sage always grabs my attention), or flashy introduction (Nina from Flowers in My Hair and Chelsea from The Girl Who Loved to Write come to mind), thinking outside the box is a nice touch.
You’re honest. It’s easy to bite off more than you can chew- shit happens. If work or life is too hectic and you need a break, I understand and will support you. But if you don’t communicate that to me, I think I’ve been cheated.
You offer discounts for returning customers. This isn’t a deal-breaker for me and I don’t expect it, but it’s a courtesy I appreciate. Ashley from The Grits Blog excels at this: I’ve sponsored her a few times and purchased two blog designs from her- she’s sweet and insanely talented, but the discounts help keep her at the top of my list.
Most of these stipulations go both ways: as a sponsor, I should be kind, appreciative, and follow through with my end of the bargain. I can’t expect another blogger to boost my space if I’m not giving them any content with which to work. I admit that I’m a handful of a lady and am not perfect but one of my blogging goals is to be a better client. I’m toying with the idea of offering sponsorships and want to offer the best experience possible.
Where you can currently find me: I’m working with a great group right now!
Helene in Between: I get tons of views from Helene’s sidebar and she offers a monthly giveaway; if you want to increase your viewership, this is a great way to go.
Flowers in my Hair: I mentioned Nina above, but, to reiterate, she’s crazy inventive and thorough.
Venus Trapped in Mars: Similar to Helene- I live on her sidebar, receive a ton of views, and have the option to participate in a monthly giveaway. What they do works.
Sage: Cassie was also mentioned above, but, again, she works social media wonders. She even checks in periodically to ensure you’re both happy.
The Girl Who Loved to Write: Chelsea, also mentioned above, offers a fabulous interview-like introductory post and a monthly giveaway option.
Hey Kerri Blog: My sponsorship with Kerri just ended, but, I enjoyed it so much I’m going to purchase another. Kerri is a lot of fun and a great promoter, plus she offers 50% off for returning customers.
