Thanks for stopping by Beauty A-Z! As the title of my blog implies, I love lipstick. I haven’t always worn it but it’s become a must-have in my late 20s; nothing pulls a look together more and I love the added dose of glamour. Most women have their signature color. I’m a red gal, but I’m beginning to love the bright fuchsias and corals on the market.
I have a few tricks on wearing lipstick:
You want to start with a good base. I keep my lips moisturized by drinking tons of water and wearing lip balm, always applying before bed. I also exfoliate my lips; you don’t need a special product- Vaseline (or lip balm) and a toothbrush work wonders on flakiness.
Use a primer. I find this especially necessary when using inexpensive lipstick. I prefer NYX Primer and Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer.
Line. Lip liner has a bad reputation thanks to the tackiness of non-blended dark liner. You can find liner to match your lipstick shade, but I find it’s easier to stick with nude… It blends well and keeps your color from feathering. I love NYX Wonder Pencil.
Blot. I’m an old-fashioned gal and prefer using a tissue to blot excess product (am I the only one thinking of a basket of kisses from Mad Men?). I’m like Ginger from Saved by the Bell- I constantly worry about lipstick on my teeth. Blotting helps prevent that faux pas.
I think application technique is left up to the user: I prefer applying right out of the tube, while others use brushes. There is no right way, do what works best for you!
A few of my favorite things:
As you can tell, I am a HUGE fan of Maybelline and NYX lipstick. I think they’re comparable to my other favorite brands, YSL and Stila. YSL is the absolute best, but it’s $35. with that price tag you have to commit to a color. You have room to experiment with Maybelline and NYX.
Kerri from the Hey Kerri Blog wrote a great post last week about drugstore lipsticks. We’ve been on the same wavelength lately and she’s a fan of Maybelline, too!
Do you wear lipstick? What’s your favorite brand? Favorite shade?
