I received a work email late Friday afternoon from my project clients telling me that they didn’t love the format of the 600 page document I’ve been drafting for two years. The format was in place before I came on board in 2013, but, now that the completion date is imminent, they want me to change it. That’s a hell of a lot of work to complete in 5 weeks and my Friday night was spent drinking wine on the couch. I went back in the office Monday with a new attitude: this is THEIR document and I work for them; if they’re not happy, it’s my job to make it so. I don’t get paid to write what I want. I get paid to write what they want. But this space, my little ol’ blog, it’s all mine. And I will write what I want.
I read a post last week where the writer said she didn’t enjoy reading blogs anymore and proceeded to name a handful of bloggers that still struck her fancy. She claims no one writes with substance and one of the commenters lamented that she hated bloggers and their “lists.” While I appreciate their candor, I thought to myself “well tough shit. Don’t read it.”
