As you know, I believe we should all do what we want. Live your life! But I read this article in InSyle last week titled “Clothes Every Woman in Her 20s Should Own” and found it so interesting. While I don’t necessarily agree with the title, I definitely agreed with many of items they mentioned.
In the spirit of their article, I have compiled a list of wardrobe and beauty staples for every lady, regardless of age.
Kind of a given, right? Not just for interviews! I have several quality blazers/suits I rotate for work, but keep numerous casual blazers on hand to wear over dresses. I love the look of a casual blazer over a summer dress- the structure makes the outfit look polished. They’re also a great way to dress up jeans and a tshirt! You can’t go wrong with a black blazer, but I love the colorful and printed ones on the market.
Good Underwear and Bras
Friends, I hate underwear. Like hate it so much I don’t always wear it. It makes me feel like I’m being personally victimized by Regina George. But we all must wear it sometimes. Bras are a must every day for me and a bralette ain’t gonna cut it. I tend to spend a bit more on them and not only because I’m DD- a bad bra can ruin your day. Don’t believe me? Try sitting through a meeting with a busted wire poking into your skin. Underwear can make or break an outfit, too. Panty lines and double boobs can make you uncomfortable and destroy a gorgeous outfit. Read more on my bra rules here.
Marilyn Monroe famously claimed that the only thing she wore to bed was Chanel No. 5. I have worn Chanel since early college. I started with No. 5 but it was a bit too powdery for me. I soon tried Chance and will probably never wear anything else. I LOVE it and have had men approach me asking what I’m wearing so they can buy it for their wives- seriously, this has happened several times! It adds a touch of glamour and will always remind others of you!
I have a toxic relationship with high heels- they hurt my toes and feet and hips but I love them. We love the things that hurt us most. But I think a sexy pair of heels can dress up any outfit, and are perfect for special occasions. Wearing a pair of flats with a little black dress just doesn’t seem right! If you’re afraid of heights, try a classic kitten heel.
For the special occasions when you just can’t make yourself wear pumps. I bought a few pairs of flats this season and am loving life again.
Little Black Dress
The hunt for the perfect little black dress is my white whale. I have 10 black dresses, but none of them are the ONE. Regardless, an LBD goes with everything: dress it down with a denim jacket, dress it up with party heels and a bold accessories. It is iconic for a reason.
I always say that you’re never fully dressed without lipstick! I’m a bold lip gal, and I get not everyone goes for the daring look. There are lots of nude and subtle shades on the market that will give you a little color and complete your outfit. And you don’t have to spend a fortune! Maybelline makes a great product for only a few bucks.
Good moisturizer for face and body
This is a must. I may skip life for the day, but I never skip moisturizing. Your skin requires TLC.
Obviously. It can slow the aging process and save your LIFE.
I know not everyone cares for makeup, but the quickest way to look bright-eyed and awake, even if you haven’t slept, is with mascara. More on my makeup must-haves here.
Do you agree with these? What would you add to the list?
I also want to share that my sweet, talented friend Ashley from That Southern Mama has finally opened her Etsy shop. She offers adorable prints for digital download, invitations, and more! She asked me to participate in a giveaway to get her started, and I am thrilled to spread the word! Enter below and give her shop a try!
