Are you a college football or NFL fan? I don’t know much about football, honestly, but am on board with anything that condones drinking at 9:00 am. The first year J and I were dating, we had season tickets for Kentucky football. We’re more of a basketball school and since the football Cats are never that great (it’s hard being in the SEC!), we spent the entire season tailgating. I don’t think we made it in to more than one game. Welcome to the south.
Rebekah from The Straight Arrow asked me to join her in two fantasy football leagues- since we get every college and NFL game possible, I figured I’d picked up a thing or two and would have something to discuss with J from September to January. Details below!
If you have never participated in a fantasy league and think it sounds complicated, don’t worry! I promise it is really easy and we are here to help if you have any questions!
Here’s how the leagues work:
The NFL league has a traditional draft where each participant takes turns picking their team from among NFL players. Each week your team is matched up against another participant’s team and you get points based on how your players perform in their respective games. The one with the most points wins that week’s match up. You are also able to trade and drop players throughout the season, so you aren’t stuck with the team you initially picked. To join this league, your form and buy in money (see below) have to be submitted by 7:00PM EST on August 30th. The actual season does not begin until September 10th.
CollegePick’em is really simple – there is no worrying about players, just the games themselves. All you do is pick the winning teams for that week’s games, and you can rank those picks by confidence for extra points. So a team that you are sure will win would get a 10 confidence vote, and a game that you are not sure about would get a 1 confidence vote. If you pick correctly, you get those confidence points added to your weekly score. Since the season officially starts on September 4th, to join this league, your form and buy in money (see below) have to be submitted by 7:00PM EST on September 3rd.
We like the idea of more than one person walking away with all the prize money, so Rebekah and I decided to split the pots so that 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places all get something at the end of the season. The bigger the pot, the bigger the pay out, so the more the merrier (tell all your friends)!
If would like to join either or both of our leagues, simply send your buy in money to firstname.lastname@example.org and fill out the form below. Once we receive your payment and form submission, we will send you the invite to the league(s) via email. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask Rebekah or I! We really hope you will join us this season! click here to access the Google Doc.
Have you ever participated in either leagues? I hope you’ll join us!
