By how easily we’re offended.
The only offensive thing about Starbucks cups is how much the contents of said cup cost. And that the milk in the lattes hurts my stomach. But that’s another discussion for another day. Another cup, if you will.
There have been loads of nonsensical (and non-offensive) stories catching fire lately. And it’s exhausting. On one hand I feel we’re lucky that we live in such a BLESSED country that these are the things we have to worry about. We don’t have to worry about access to clean drinking water or being stoned to death for committing a “crime”. On the other hand, it’s ridiculous. When did we become so entitled? Where did we lose the definition of “offensive?”
In fact, I’ve been so terrified of offending others that I’ve censored myself on my own blog. And that’s ridiculous. You are going to encounter people who disagree with your way of thinking. You are going to encounter ignorance and poor decision making. This is life. One of the things that makes this country great is that we have the freedom to express opinions. We have freedom of religion- and that doesn’t just apply to us Christians. Embrace the freedoms. I grew up in a small town in Kentucky and was raised in church. I am a Christian. And I still understand that not everyone believes the way I do. We don’t all have the same beliefs and that’s okay.
But if you go around being “offended” by everything, you’re going to miss out on a lot of fun. Everyone is in such a tizzy over red cups and Target Christmas shirts that we neglected to realize that it’s the holidays! This IS the most wonderful time of the year, so let’s stop ruining it by fighting over bullshit, okay? Hug your family and be grateful for another year on this earth. Do something nice for a stranger or someone in need. Seriously.
That’s all the time I’m going to waste on that negativity…
So how was your week? I’m still recovering from last weekend! I had the day off Wednesday so we enjoyed a nice date of watching movies and day drinking. I’ve been coming down with something since last weekend so J convinced me to try a pumpkin beer with a shot of Fireball… which I’d never had before. I think it made my throat worse. Oof. Not a fan. Real bourbon, please.
Brittany and I are hosting a Blogger Christmas Cookie Exchange linkup on December 4th! As I discussed in my Blogging Basics blog prompts post Wednesday, sharing a favorite holiday recipe is an easy and fun post to share this time of year. Link up with a beloved cookie recipe!
And last but not least, today I’m introducing you to my blogging mentor and friend, Anne from Love the Here and Now! Anne shares the best blog tips and tales of parenting (this post is a must-read), and has a wonderful sponsorship program. She’s my fabulous Blogging Basics partner and is so quick to offer help when needed: last week, she sent a group of us video tutorials on WordPress questions we asked. I’m trying to convince her to start offering webinars…
Give us your elevator speech and tell us about your blog!
Love the Here and Now started off as a blog where I wanted to be able to share anything that struck my fancy (hence the name, Love there Here and Now….what I was enjoying at the moment). Slowly it has evolved into a bit more. As time went on I found myself enjoying sharing blogging tips and tutorials as I know that when I started out I had no idea what I was doing. I still enjoy sharing some personal reflections and other things that I love as well (fonts and the occasional recipe). But putting my blog into a specific category? I don’t think I can. It’s a lifestyle blog which to me, by definition, is wide open and varied; much like our lives!
What makes your blog unique?
There’s been talk lately throughout the blogging world and social media about how nothing seems unique anymore. Though that may be true to some extent, it is not 100% true. What makes my blog unique is my experience, my presentation, and my views on a subject. Perfect case in point: Lindsay and I run a weekly series called Blogging Basics. We write about the same topic each week yet we may have totally different spins on the topic. Each and every one of us brings something different to the table so even though my blog may be similar to the next blog out there, what makes it unique is that it’s mine and it’s filled with my thoughts and feelings.
What’s your must-have beauty or skincare product?
My must have beauty and skin care product would be my Clinique Moisturizer. I think I should probably say concealer or blush as I spend about 9 months of the year looking pretty pale, but a good moisturizer will keep your my looking fresh (and hopefully younger too!) longer.
What’s your favorite memory?
My favorite memory….hmmm….so hard to pick one! I would have to say the births of my three daughters. Waiting 9 months to meet your child and finally getting to see them and hold them is a feeling that I will never forget.
Do you have any blog projects in the works?
I’m always looking for ways to keep myself occupied and keep myself and my blog from staying stagnant. I have a few collaborations in the works for the New Year and I am considering starting a mentoring program for bloggers that switch from Blogger to WordPress. I would love to see that take off!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
