This will probably be my most controversial post to date. Forget women’s health. Forget Trump. THIS is real controversy.
I admit I spend a LOT more time thinking about this than I should. And maybe cough medicine and wine don’t mix?
Sometimes I ignore my own problems in life and wonder who Rory is with today? Where is she working? Is she covering Obama’s presidency? Is her boss now making her cover Trump’s campaign (shudder)? Her life is more interesting than mine, no doubt. My sisters and I have been obsessed with Gilmore Girls for years: in fact, if I ever have a daughter, I want to name her Lorelai (a name J has vetoed already).
*There are spoilers ahead, so if you haven’t finished watching Gilmore Girls, do so now!
This list is only open to Rory’s relationships: Jess, Dean, and Logan. No room for Marty or Tristan here. I’m not the first and I won’t be the last to discuss this sensitive topic, but here we go:
BARF. If I could put him lower on the list I would. I get it: opposites attract! He’s cute! He’s thoughtful! He bought her a car! He’s also a possessive, obsessive, garbage person. I am not buying his wounded puppy dog look. Maybe Lorelai was right and he was the “perfect first boyfriend.” BUT. He cheated on Lindsay with Rory, and I can’t deal with anyone who cheats on a Lindsay.

Really, he could be last. The only reason he’s not is because he kind of brings out a fun side of Rory, who is honestly not my favorite. Can we agree that we all watch Gilmore Girls because of Lauren Graham? It was nice to see that she wasn’t perfect… no Pollyanna, as I think Logan called her once. Yes, he was great when Rory’s grandpa was in the hospital and helped get her home when Lorelai had a meltdown. But he wasn’t always dependable. He was an immature, arrogant jerk. A butt-faced miscreant, if you will.

Are you surprised? I always root for the bad boy: Mr. Big, Uncle Jesse, etc. Was he a great boyfriend? No. But he was also a teenager dealing with a lot of adult stuff. He’s the only one who matches Rory intellectually, and called Rory out on her dropping out of Yale bullshit. It’s nice to have support, but sometimes you need someone to tell you when you’re wrong. He challenged her. He protected her. And he wrote a book. He grew into a real class act.

Tell me- where do you stand on the issue? No need to debate Lorelai’s boyfriends. Luke is the only one who ever mattered.
