Happy Friday! I had a garbage week. Lots going on and I’m having trouble with my eyes again. I’m still not 100% over this sickness, either. Sigh. In turn, I bought three pairs of shoes, spent a million dollars at Sephora, and was generally an unpleasant person all around. I also didn’t win the lottery. I have barely opened my computer all in order to rest my eyes, so if I haven’t responded to emails or comments, I am sorry!
I do have a long weekend, thank goodness. We’re on a major decluttering kick and plan to purge the closets and kitchen this weekend. We thought about taking a trip, but honestly I’m looking forward to this. Our 1200 square foot house seems too small because we’re both emotional hoarders. It’s time for some things to go.
Luckily my sweet friend and favorite fashion blogger, Alison from Puppies and Pretties, put together an amazing post for us today that will have you looking forward to spring! I’ll be back with a fun new series next week, but for now, I’ll turn it over to Alison!
Hi Bourbon, Lipstick & Stilettos readers! I’m Alison from Puppies & Pretties. Today I thought I would share 5 trends that you can add to your closet now but continue to wear into spring. Isn’t it such a weird time to shop? I mean, as I type this it is 2 degrees above zero. But you know if you go to a store, there will be springy items and swimsuits in abundance. The positive thing about shopping now is winter things are going on sale. Many of these items will easy transition to spring. And lets be honest, there is still 3 months left of cold weather, at least for this Minnesotan. So lets dive in!
Texture is the perfect way to add dimension to an outfit. Whether it is fringe, ruffles, fur, leather, or even lace, there is something out there for you. A fur vest is definitely something that you can probably pick up on sale right now, but your best bet would be in store. Ruffles and lace transcend any season, so be on the lookout for items you can layer now and then wear on their own once the weather warms up.
This winter pleats have definitely had a moment, especially in midi skirts. Pick one up now and wear it with a chunky knit. Once spring rolls around, go with a feminine top. Pleats can also be found in dresses and some tops, but your best bet is a skirt with this trend.
I’m sure we all have our favorite pair of jeans and chambray shirt. I’m still on the hunt for a pair of white skinny jeans, because you can wear those year round! Along with this staples, consider a chambray dress or denim skirt. A chambray dress would make for a perfect base piece, think with a cardigan/jacket and scarf now then a statement necklace later.
The 70’s/boho look won’t be going away any time soon. Think flowy tops and dresses, prints, and tassels. Wear a peasant top now with jeans and then shorts later.
Cold and off the shoulder
This is one trend you won’t see me in. I remember having a cold should dress a few years ago and I just couldn’t make it work with my wide shoulders. But if you don’t have linebacker shoulders like me, try this one out. There are all sorts of sweaters, dresses and regular tops that you can find to show your shoulders off.
What trends are you looking forward to?
