Thanks for joining Llinos and I for our Reading Challenge and Chat! This was designed to inspire me to read more… so far it’s going well! Our first month was a book about blogging, and I chose “Blog, Inc” by Joy Cho (from the Oh Joy! line at Target!).
To make time for reading, J and I have started going to bed at 9:00 every night: we turn off computers, phones, and the tv so we can focus on our books. We are 100. One of my biggest issues lately has been carving out time to read, and this new routine has not only helped me finish two books this year, but my sleep has drastically improved. I’m definitely more well-rested!
Back to the book: “Blog, Inc” focuses on “blogging for passion, profit, and to create community.” It’s an easy, fun read that discusses topics such as SEO, blog etiquette, making your blog a business, and monetizing your blog. She breaks down these broad topics further by adding interviews with some big-name bloggers, like Emily from Cupcakes & Cashmere. The interviews are the best part!
Between Pinterest and daily blog reading, I’ve felt inundated with blogging information and wondered what else there was to learn. While I do feel I have a pretty good grasp on things, Joy has some fantastic ideas and helped me wrap my mind around topics I struggle with, such as SEO. There’s one section dedicated to “The ABCs of SEO” that I found particularly helpful! The book was first published in 2012, but I found most of her advice to be relevant, even four years later.
There’s a section regarding taxes, finances, and copyrighting your work- an area I always struggle with!
If you’re in a blogging rut and need to get excited again (ME), I highly suggest reading Blog, Inc. I’ll definitely keep it close by to reference and refresh.
Have you read Blog, Inc? Or any book about blogging? I’d love recommendations!
