Thanks for joining us for April’s book challenge and chat!
This month I read Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin.
Makeup is my hobby, and while there isn’t much to “read” in this book, it’s great for learning tips on classic makeup application. I know there are thousands of makeup tutorials on Pinterest, but Aucoin’s book keeps it simple. He truly was an artist.
Aucoin was a celebrity makeup artist who worked with many stars, including Cher, Janet Jackson, and Gwyneth Paltrow, just to name a few! He also appeared on Sex and the City as the makeup artist working with Carrie for her celebrity modeling debut. What I admire most about him is his insistence that women embrace their imperfections and his desire to help them feel their best.
The book shares everything from skin prep, how to choose a foundation, contouring, and shaping eyebrows. There’s also sections on creating certain makeup looks, such as The Bombshell and The Diva.
And while it was first published in 1997, it is still relevant today. Classic makeup application never goes out of style. If you feel overwhelmed by countless online tutorials and trends, I highly suggest checking out this book. I know I’m easily distracted while searching for tips and tutorials online, but can’t wait to implement some of the tips I learned! I see a series down the line…
Go check out what Llinos read this month!
Our next chat is May 31st and we’re discussing a book about time management. I know it’s not the most fun topic, but it’s something I need a ton of direction on! I believe I’m going to read “15 Secrets Successful People Know About Time Management…”
Have you read this book? If you were to read a book about your hobby, what would you choose?
