I’m writing this post on Tuesday afternoon. I voted earlier today so now I’m on the couch watching Friends and drinking a pumpkin ale. I don’t know the outcome of the election at this moment, but no matter what, we need to remember we’re a team. We’re in this together (for better or for worse). How many countries would love the freedom we were able to express yesterday?
What can we do today? We can get up. We can go to work. We can come home, cook dinner, and watch tv… maybe with a glass of wine (we’ve earned it). We can start focusing on the holiday season: just two weeks away from Thanksgiving. About six weeks away from Christmas. And then we’ll be ringing in a new year, full of hope and opportunity.
Today we are weary. But we must treat everyone around us with respect. Pick up Starbucks for a co-worker. Pay for lunch for the car behind you. Send someone a hand-written note of encouragement or a bouquet of flowers. Take a treat to your neighbor. Buy a bottle of wine or bourbon for a friend or significant other. Say a kind word. Give a hug. Call a loved one. Give everyone a little extra patience and love today. We have survived a contentious election cycle. And now we’re done. Let’s move forward together.
How are you going to share the love today?
