Long time, no see!
Today is my last day off and I’m trying to soak it up – how did 11 days go by so quickly? I am honestly dreading heading back to the office…
We had such a whirlwind holiday season and I’m sad to see it go. I love recaps: they’re such a great way to look back on special moments.
*Warning – lots of pictures ahead! I forgot to take my DSLR to the beach, so all vacation pictures were taken with my iPhone.
I was of course sick right before Christmas… it never fails! My first day off was the 23rd and I spent the day wrapping presents, resting, and cleaning before picking up my sister up at the airport at midnight. We didn’t get home until 1:30, buy my parents, sister, and brother were waiting on us! My mom made us all Christmas Eve bags filled with Kentucky-made products, including a bottle of bourbon! It was such a fun way to start the celebration.
We got very little sleep, but started Christmas Eve with brunch (and drinks!). We spend every Christmas Eve with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We’ve done it every year since I can remember. We have a gift exchange and take turns reading Bible verses about the birth of Jesus. It’s one of my favorite traditions, and I look forward to it every year. We ended the night with Christmas Vacation and a little Fireball. 😉
I had a lot of caffeine after being up all night…
My siblings and I have always woken up early on Christmas Day, and, even though we’re in our 20s and 30s, things haven’t changed! Santa was very good to us all again this year! We spent the day eating brunch, drinking coffee and eggnog, playing games, and relaxing in our pjs.
And she was over it by the end of the day…
We headed to Hilton Head bright and early the next morning. My sister and brother-in-law moved there in June and we’re always more than happy to visit! The first day on the beach was a bit foggy and cool, but it was still a blast!
View from our favorite bar!
We hung out on the beach or at the pool all day and met my family for a nice dinner Monday night. We finally got to see how Hilton Head does Christmas, and it did not disappoint!
Our last day on the beach was gorgeous. I even got a little sun! We were within walking distance of our favorite daiquiri restaurant, which made it even better.
We spent our last night exploring Savannah. It was so nice to be in the city when it wasn’t 90 degrees!
We headed for home the next morning, and spent the evening grilling and having a little wine.
For New Year’s Eve, our tradition is grilling steaks and seafood with my parents. We watched the TaxSlayer Bowl game (too bad the Cats couldn’t pull out a win!) and played several games of HiHo Cherry-O! with my niece before somehow managing to stay up until midnight. As the meme said: I wanted to watch 2016 die. And just like that, the holidays were over.
Again, it was a whirlwind! I am ready to start a new year but will miss all the extra time with my family, especially since I now only get to see one of my sisters a couple of times a year. I’m sure I’ll be fine once I get back into a routine!
Tell me – how was your holiday week? Here’s to a great 2017!
Linking up with Biana.
