Hello there! I took a longer break than intended – work is crazy again and I’m having trouble getting stuff scheduled. I hope to get back to my regular schedule soon!
Instead of buying each other gifts for Christmas, J and I decided to take a couple of trips. Travel is the gift that keeps on giving, right? We went to Hollywood, FL several years ago and loved it so much we decided to visit again. It’s such a gorgeous place!
We left Louisville Thursday night and arrived in Florida around midnight. We haven’t flown in a few years – I don’t mind the actual flying part – my anxiety is more focused on getting to the airport on time, knowing where I’m supposed to be, making my connecting flight, etc. Traveling is great, but the getting there part is always tough on me. Anyone else?
Hollywood Beach is known for its broadwalk (I’ve been calling it a boardwalk, but apparently it’s a broadwalk?), and, aside from the views, it’s our favorite part. The boardwalk is a 2.5 mile pedestrian promenade featuring over 50 restaurants and bars. There’s definitely something for every taste. Most of the restaurants serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and everything is very reasonably priced. You will not go hungry! We stayed a couple of miles away but walked down every morning because the weather was comfortable.
I’m not a hot weather lover, so I enjoyed that the temperatures were in the high 70s. The water was too cool for swimming, but we were able to comfortably walk and relax on the beach. Friday we went to the new Margaritaville: while I’m not a fan of cheesy resorts or chain restaurants, it had a fun atmosphere and good drink deals. We ended the night with dinner at Padrino’s Cuban Cuisine, a hole-in-the-wall that was suggested to us by one of the employees at the hotel. We were pleasantly surprised, and the service was impeccable. I couldn’t finish my meal and they took it off our bill!
Saturday was cloudy and rainy so we dodged in and out of bars trying to catch all the good basketball games. We cheered on the Cats to a win and headed back to the hotel to spend some time by the pool.
Sunday was spent trying to catch up on some sun and tacos. We tried the highly-suggested Taco Spot on the beach and it was amazing! Neither of us could finish our meals because there was so much food.
We had one last breakfast on the beach before heading to the airport. It was a hectic day of travel, but we made it home safely, and for that I am grateful!
Our dryer quit the day we left for our trip – full of wet clothes, of course. The friends who took us to the airport also picked up our wet laundry and finished it for us. Some people really go above and beyond in life! It takes a village to raise me, apparently.
We had a wonderful getaway; I’m always happy when we have some quiet time together! Hollywood is such a beautiful place and I cannot wait to go back.
Have you ever been to Hollywood? Any trips in your near future?
