Happy Monday. It seems like we’re always here…
Not making a political statement today (I promise!), but, if you’ve heard Mitch McConnell’s words to Elizabeth Warren, it’s easy to see why they’ve become a rallying cry for women everywhere: “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.”
There’s some power behind those words, friends. Giving up is easy. It’s easier to be quiet. It’s easier to quit. But. She persisted. And so must we.
It’s easier to fall back on your old ways before meeting your weight loss goals. It’s easier to stay at a job because it pays the bills, even if it doesn’t fulfill you and leaves you unhappy. It’s easier to not take a risk. It’s easier to stay in a shitty relationship because it’s too hard to start over. It’s easier to stay single because you don’t want to get hurt. It’s easier to give up on having babies because you’ve faced years of negative pregnancy tests. It’s easier to sit back and watch someone else live the life you want. It’s easier to watch others succeed, to watch others go back to school, to watch others pay off debt. It’s easier to stay miserable.
There might even be people blocking your path: your boss, mom, dad, sibling, aunt, cousin, significant other, girlfriend, stranger, blogger. Not everyone is brave. Not everyone wants to see you succeed.
But being persistent means that sometimes you have to crawl through shit. It means working a garbage job, being with a garbage person, living a garbage life, until you finally realize you must rally. It means busting your ass through blood, sweat, and tears, and exploding through to the other side like a fucking warrior.
Life is going to shit on you and you can choose to wallow or fight back. You can choose to take it. But I hope you always persist – whether it’s following a dream, or leaving your job, or standing up to an asshole, or just living your life. Because giving up and giving in is not an option.
