I haven’t made much of a secret out of the fact that I’m in something of a rut…
The past year has been full of ups and downs, as most years are. But there will always be hard days and long nights. And, God willing, there will be many more happy moments than sad. But when times are rough, it’s important to cling to joy. To the things that make you smile. To the things that cause those deep belly laughs. To the things for which you are grateful. For me, I want to remember the following:
How thankful I am to come home to J at the end of a long work day.
Our cozy bedroom and bed.
How amazing freshly-shaved legs feel on clean sheets.
Being able to throw a baby shower for a friend who was told she’d never have babies.
The freckles across my niece’s nose.
Her huge imagination and how much she loves cats, horses, and Moana.
The sound of her laugh when I tickle her feet.
Hearing her sing.
How she loves to send me “stickers” (emojis) via text.
How my dad calls me every Wednesday night.
How my mom makes everything so special – even a Saturday afternoon in the backyard.
The first night of family vacation, when all four Latimer siblings are finally reunited.
Being able to celebrate my grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary.
How happy my grandmother was when I bought her a cd player for her birthday.
Drinking a cold glass of prosecco out of my $2.99 TJMaxx glass on a Tuesday night.
Listening to the Fleetwood Mac Pandora station with J while we cook dinner.
When my siblings are successful.
Putting on a new outfit or pair of shoes.
Ulta or Sephora packages on my front porch. Better if it’s both. 🙂
The first sunny day after days of rain.
Really good food.
Finishing a life-changing book or podcast.
That first cup of coffee.
Those are a few of the things that make me smile when I’m having a hard day. What brings you joy? How do you get through tough times? Here’s to a great week!
