We came back from celebrating Father’s Day in my hometown Sunday and I had a ton of stuff to do to get ready for the week. But as soon as we pulled into our driveway, we were hit with a rough storm that lasted about two hours. I had to put many of my tasks on the back burner due to the weather and the fact that J used the opportunity to take a nap. 🙂
But in that time I was able to accomplish a lot of random tasks – things that I wouldn’t normally do had I been able to work, vacuum, do laundry, etc. Then the wheels started turning: what are some simple (and perhaps annoying) tasks I could do around the house (aside from my normal cleaning) in five minutes or less? Here’s what I came up with:
Tidy up the shower. I can’t be the only person with empty-ish shampoo and body wash bottles lying around, can I? Throw away old razors and washes you never use.
Wipe down doors. Have you ever noticed how dusty doors get? I usually take a wet cloth or magic eraser and go to town.
Wipe down baseboards. One of the things I hate to do but feel so much better after it’s done! You can get at least one room finished in five minutes.
Dust ceiling fans. If you live in the south, you know you cannot live without these God-given things this time of year. It’s another household item that accumulates a lot of dust and you definitely don’t want to breathe it in while sleeping!
Reorganize one cabinet or drawer. Could be in the kitchen or bathroom.
Clean out your purse. You will be surprised how many old receipts and change you have stuffed in there!
Clean up your inbox. Delete old emails, unsubscribe from stores so you’re not tempted to shop, and archive the important stuff.
Sharpen your lip and eye pencils.
Clean your makeup brushes.
Plan your outfits for the week.
Tidy your closet. It doesn’t have to be a complete overhaul – remove errant hangers, remove trash from the floor, and put clothes back in place.
Throw out old phone and electronic chargers.
Toss rarely-used cleaning supplies.
Remove dishes and glasses that you no longer use (even better if you’re able to donate them).
Delete shows you have already watched to make room for new recordings.
Make the bed.
Write someone a note. It takes little effort to make someone’s day.
