It’s a new month and I’m back from a long vacation and feeling refreshed so I thought I’d share some goals/challenges/thoughts for the weeks ahead. Linking up with Kristen and Gretchen.
Sheryl mentioned on Instagram that she’s doing a 30 day challenge this month and I decided to (quietly) join, too. My challenge is to not drink beer all of August – except during our trip to Cleveland next weekend. I am a big beer drinker but I have to cut back and see if it can help with my weight loss goals. This will be especially difficult for me as the fall and pumpkin ales are making their way on to shelves as we speak. This is my favorite season for beer but I’ll be refraining… until September. Save a pumpkin ale for me, guys.
I saw 31 days of kindness challenge on Instagram, too, and God knows I need to participate in this. I’m a big proponent of small acts of service and this list provides many creative ideas. I’m not sure I’ll complete each act, but I’m sure going to try.
We are going to Cleveland next weekend to celebrate J’s birthday. He’s a huge Cleveland Browns fan (hard for this Bengals fan to say) so I got us tickets to their training camp. We’re also going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (his gift to me). What else should we do? Where should we eat? Drink? I’m all ears!
I’ve been on a big tv kick lately. I finished GLOW a couple of weeks ago and highly recommend watching. I started Grace and Frankie, too. I’m way behind on that one, I know. If you ever want to know who I am as a person, watch Grace (Jane Fonda’s character). That’s a pretty good glimpse into my soul. This week I started I’m Sorry on TruTV. It is hilarious and bawdy – basically everything I want in a show. The first episode centers around Andrea (the main character) realizing a mom at her daughter’s school is a former anal porn star (never thought I’d type those words on my blog). It’s not for the faint of heart, but somehow manages to be sweet at the same time. I feel like I’m always recommending the most profane shows to you guys, but, that’s who I am.
Nearly finished with “The Lifechanging Magic of Not Giving a F***” and started “You are a Badass at Making Money” while on vacation. I am in love with this book and may go back to the beginning so I can take notes. She discusses how many of us feel like we don’t deserve to make money and I found that to be a huge wake-up call – it’s so true! I am personally guilty of holding myself back and I never realized it more until I picked up this book.
Work on negativity. I’m a super negative person by nature and it’s something I’m working desperately to improve. I have to be intentional with my thoughts. J shared with me something he read recently: You can’t control your first thought, but you can control your second thought. It’s a simple concept and one I hope to adapt. Also searching for all the positive podcasts/books/blogs I can find.
Fitness. I am back on the 5:00 a.m. workout train and feel exponentially better. I’m also walking on breaks at work and, when the weather permits, walking after work as well. Being active helps my attitude, too, so it’s a win-win situation for me. I’m currently doing a variation of BBG, but send me all of your 30-minute and under online workout recommendations – especially if it’s helped you lose weight. I’m doing a decent job of cooking healthy meals, but snacking is still an issue for me. I could eat chips and salsa the livelong day. I literally ordered that as a meal while on vacation. I’m not a big fruit eater, so if there are any salty, healthy snacks you love, send them my way!
Practice gratitude. I often focus more on what I DON’T have than what I DO have, and that’s a vicious cycle. I never want to be ungrateful because you never know when everything can be taken away from you. I know that’s dark, but I think it’s true. Last night I told J how thankful I was for a full fridge and pantry and that we came home from a relaxing vacation to our house intact. Not everyone is that lucky and I need to realize it more.
Tell me: what’s new with you?
