Linking up with Kristin and Gretchen for September’s What’s New With You?
I am thinking of all of you in the path of Irma. I can’t imagine how anxious you all must be – please stay safe.
My sister and brother-in-law moved to Hilton Head last year and had to evacuate due to Matthew. They think they’re in the path of Irma, too. It had been years since HHI was hit with a hurricane, and they’re facing two in two years. Even living in paradise is hard sometimes.
It’s festival season in Kentucky. The temperatures have been in the 60s and 70s so I’m trying to attend everything I possibly can. We’re going to the Festival of the Horse in Georgetown this weekend, next weekend is the Bourbon Festival (seriously the two most Kentucky festivals back-to-back), and the weekend after is the Bourbon & Beyond concert festival. I’m so excited to see Stevie Nicks!
I did a decent job with last month’s beer drinking challenge. I drank while we were in Cleveland and had a few beers here and there, but was overall pleased. And the best part? I don’t want to drink it. I had a few beers over the Labor Day weekend (football, you know?), but otherwise prefer wine or bourbon. Much less filling! That doesn’t mean I won’t enjoy a few pumpkin ales, however!
I am not a fan of Walmart, but I’ve had to make a few unfortunate stops in there recently. Perks of living in a small town and not having other choices. My sister pointed out these utility jackets – they’re $15! I purchased the Merlot Wine color (duh) but they also come in gray, blush, and olive. They’re lightweight enough to wear on cool mornings, but you won’t sweat to death in the afternoon. I paired mine with a sleeveless swing dress – the perfect transitional combo.
We are planning a Halloween party next month. We don’t throw a lot of parties because most of our friends and family don’t live near us, so there’s travel involved to get everyone together. I’ve been buying all the things to prepare. I ransacked Target’s dollar spot over the weekend and picked up this sweet felt garland for my bar cart on Etsy.
My home style is forever evolving but I am also on a budget. I’m updating our living room a bit and found this pillow cover on Amazon for $15 bucks. I saw a similar pillow at Antrhopologie last year that was MUCH more. I am all about finding cheaper alternatives.

But, even after buying all the knick-knacks, I am trying to declutter and create a minimalist environment. I shared my hopes of creating a makeup capsule collection earlier this week, and have been donating every chance I get. I donated lots of our dishes and cookware last month, and cleaned out my closet over the weekend and have another round to go. It’s so freeing to get rid of clutter, and it’s even better when you can get it in the hands of those who truly need it.
I started some new HIIT workouts this week. I fell off my workout schedule last week and needed something new to get me back on track. The temperature is perfect for after work walks, too. Walking is my favorite exercise – it doesn’t feel like work to me.
One of my sorority sisters (and dear friends) took my old position at work. It has been a blast seeing her every day, and makes the process of training a lot less stressful! I’m enjoying my job for the first time in years.
I’m a work in progress when it comes to changing my mindset, but staying positive is my biggest goal for September, too. Here are a couple of quotes I’m loving:

Okay, friends. What’s new with you?
