Isn’t it amazing how quickly Monday arrives? Blink and you’ll miss the weekend, right? We didn’t leave the house again this weekend – I’m sensing a pattern here. I think I’m in hibernation mode and I’m trying to guard myself from the flu and other sickness that’s rampant in Kentucky (and beyond).
When it comes to home decor and kitchen tools, I’m pretty cheap. I feel like trends change frequently and I am not willing to spend $100+ on something that will be out of style within a year. I’ll splurge on certain pieces like a mattress and other furniture, but, when it comes to other home goods, I’m all about savings!
Here are a few of the budget-friendly pieces we use in our home:

Microfiber Sheet Set: I purchased these in the striped version (called Nighttime Blue) and we love them. They look and feel more expensive than the price reflects! I’m an avid sheet washer, meaning I strip our bed at least once a week. And, sorry, I wash sheets and towels in hot water, but these have held up after lots of washing and drying. If you’re worried about the quality, I at least think they’d be great for a guest bed! You cannot beat the price.
Capri Blue Volcano Candle: $30 for a candle might not seem like a budget buy, but hear me out. A lot of people buy the insanely expensive Diptyque candles (I’ve fallen prey to them as well), but the Capri Blue candles are huge and last for months. I have turned my whole family onto them now! It’s the best-smelling candle around. Plus, they’re pretty!
Extra Large Round Wire Decorative Storage Bin with Copper Handles: Okay, Target was not lying when they labeled this “extra large”. When it was shipped to my house I was definitely caught off guard! However, it is perfect for storage! We use it in our living room for blankets and throws, but it’d also work great in a bedroom or nursery/playroom. It’s storage that’s aesthetically-pleasing!
Marble Base Stick Lamps: We have two of these for the nightstands in our bedroom. Our bedroom is small but these don’t take up a lot of space. They’re small but mighty!
Dutch Oven: Our most-used kitchen tool! We use this a few times a week, particularly in the winter. It’s so versatile – we cook soups, gumbos, pot roast, pasta, one-pot meals, etc. using it. One of the best things I’ve ever purchased.
Ceramic Food Storage Containers: I don’t have the ones linked here (but they’re currently in my cart!), but bought some similar jars at Target a few years ago. They don’t have spoons like these particular containers, however! I use these to store coffee and sugar and keep them on the kitchen counter because I love the look.
Essential Oil Diffuser: We have one in the living room and one in our bedroom. I love diffusing oils! I use lavender almost every night, and regularly use peppermint or citrus blends.
Over-the-Door Mirror: Perfect for #ootd pics! We keep it on the back of our guest bedroom door, and it fits well.
Sound Machine: I am the lightest sleeper in the world which makes me a tad high-maintenance. I need complete darkness, cool temperatures, lavender oil in the diffuser, and a fan. J HATES the ceiling fan so I try to compromise by using a sound machine. Sometimes we can’t avoid the fan because our bedroom is upstairs and we live in the south (i.e. the pits of hell) so it’s a necessary evil. But the nights I’m not sweating it out I’ll use my sound machine. This particular one comes equipped with six sounds (I prefer the beach!) and has volume and “sleep” control. I usually set it for 60 minutes, but you can run it all night.
Another budget-friendly tip (that most of you probably already know!): shop for towels and other linens at TJMaxx and HomeGoods. I bought the best white towels at TJ’s for super cheap! They’re also a great resource for kitchen tools and home decor. Their throw pillows are generally under $30, and they have nice candles for under $10! I bought three new candles there last week because we go through them so quickly.
Also, if you’re in the market for wire baskets, check the Target dollar spot or Walmart. I use small wire baskets as trash cans and for storage in the kitchen and bathroom. I found the cutest rose gold baskets at Walmart last year that I use to store makeup, and the waste baskets in my bathroom and bedrooms came from the Target dollar spot.
