Is that title long enough for you?
I’ve never been much of a self-help book lover. I always thought they were cheesy and that I wouldn’t find them, well, helpful. I bought six self-help books in 2017… and they collected dust on my bookshelf, much like my hopes and dreams for the year. That’s a dark statement – but if you read my 2018 post, you know I am actively trying to make this a much better year.
The books I chose have an unintentional theme (curse words in the title!), but, for self-help books to be effective, I need a dose of realness and humor!

You are a Badass: Started this last year, loved it, but only made it a bit of the way through. I couldn’t make myself commit to anything in 2017, but this is a great read! Rachel Parcell from Pink Peonies said reading this book helped her stop doubting herself and build her brand. That convinced me to pick the book up and finish! I’m also considering buying the “You are a Badass” day-to-day calendar to keep on my desk at work!
You are a Badass at Making Money: Read the first 30 pages, loved it, and didn’t pick it up again. Like I said – I couldn’t make myself finish anything last year. However, the first 30 pages are filled with truth! The author says that many of us feel like we don’t deserve money so we hold ourselves back. How many of you can identify with that statement?
The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck: The theme continues! For those of you (like me) who have trouble saying no. This breaks down learning to let go of f*cks when it comes to relationships, family, and work. I actually finished and loved this one!
Get Your Shit Together: From the same author as “The Life-Changing Magic…” above. I haven’t started this yet (of course) but here’s a great description: “Ever find yourself stuck at the office-or even just glued to the couch-when you really want to get out (for once), get to the gym (at last), and get started on that “someday” project you’re always putting off? It’s time to get your sh*t together.” Probably the first one I need to read this year!
Get Over Your Damn Self: The author mainly focuses on network marketing, but I think it could also be helpful for those of you looking to build your blog. I know I struggle to promote myself, but, as the title suggests, it’s time to get over it! I’ll never grow if I can’t get past that fear.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: Can you guys see where I struggle? I care too much about certain things. Hurting feelings. People being rude to me. Putting myself out there. Making mistakes. The list goes on! I bought this one but my sister read it first, and now my mom is reading it! I’ll get to it when she’s finished.
Unf*ck Yourself: This book has been on my list for months, but, as you can see, I have several I need to read first! Here’s a quote from the book: ”Here’s what you’ve forgotten: You’re a fu*king miracle of being.” It isn’t other people that are standing in your way, it isn’t even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive, it’s yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself.” YES.
Time to get to reading!
